David’s work as performer spans  from  Musical Director for TV and Radio,  organ and keyboard recitals as a soloist and orchestral performer, to accompanying community and school choirs and  examination  candidates.

His career has embraced the secular world of classroom music-making to the rather more rarefied atmosphere of cathedral worship or TV and Radio broadcasts. He has always been happy to advise students, amateur and professional musicians,  as many of his  students, some now working in the profession, will attest.

With more than forty years’ experience playing with all manner of musicians – from the London Mozart Players and Royal Marines, to Cathedral Choirs, Community and School ensembles and music students, David has a diverse breadth of ability. His skill as an accompanist is summed up in a review published in Gramophone in relation to the 1994 recording of Magnficat and Nunc Dimiitis Volume 4.  “In all respects it is a most enjoyable disc, with a fine choice of repertoire and consistently admirable playing by the organist, David Thorne”. In the Organists’ Review Of December, 2012 his descant to Regent Square, recently published by Oxford University Press and written for ‘Portsmouth Remembers’,  was described as ‘very fine’.
